Install 3d acceleration of intel card on Gentoo
Hello there, today i would describe the necessary procedure to do recognize our video card to Gentoo, thus enabling 3d acceleration.
I think you know the benefits to do this, so we can go on:)
The first step is check whether /etc/make.conf contains the row: VIDEO_CARDS = "intel" in contrary case you have to add it; after this we must emerge (if you don't have already installed) x11–drivers/xf86–video–intel.
Welll, now we must re-compile the kernel (for who doens't know how to do, i suggest to read these step into wireless how available on this site) ,leaving tha frame-buffer field for now, so:
Device Drivers –––>
Graphics support –––>
<*> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support) –––>
––<*> Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
<*> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support) –––>
––<*> Intel 830M, 845G, 852GM, 855GM, 865G (i915 driver) –––>
––––< > i830 driver
––––<*> i915 driver
After that you have to save , exit and then re-compile, without forget to change your bootloader.
Now, before to reboot, lets change /etc/X11/xorg.conf ( I suggest to make a backup copy in case something go wrong) in this way:
Thus also xorg.conf it's ready, now we can reboot the pc and hope for the best, if something about server-x doesn't work you have just to restore the old xorg.conf and reboot again. Assuming that all went well, we can test now the 3d acceleration
So, open a new terminal and take super user (su) command, and just type glxinfo | grep rendering whether the answer is yes, all went well and you can type glxgears to see the 3d acceleration:). If you can't complete this last step (or you don't see anything) something went wrong and you might to recompile xorg–X11 like this:
"emerge –uDNva xorg–x11".
So, i hope i've been clear:) bye bye
